Hi everyone, welcome to my site!!! My name is Mel and I'm a teenager and live in Minnesota. I have been dog sledding since mid October of 2005. Some may ask how a city kid got interested. Well it all started in the summer when I went up to Ely, MN with my mom. We went into this one furniture shop, and down comes a beautiful Alaskan Malamute, with a woman following. While my mom was looking around the shop I stayed near the front with the woman and the dog, and started asking her questions. She showed me some pictures of her and her other dogs dog sledding. Again more questions came, she told me a little about dog sledding and skijoring (but since I cant ski, only bad things could happen). She recommended that I should check out some different stores in Ely, so I did. After that I was immediately hooked, when we got home I spent endless hours on the computer searching dog sledding and mushing, and read lots of books. I met lots of interesting people, and made new friends. I had planned that I would go for a dog sledding trip in the winter and try it out to see if I really liked it. Well my wonderful aunt said she had a teacher friend that was a musher and was getting rid of some of his dogs because he wanted to go pro. So I decided I would give him a call, we set up a time when my dad and I could go to his kennel in Moorhead and see if I wanted any of his dogs. I wanted some of his dogs!!! After the visit we had to make sure my mom was ok with it, and if she was, we planned to go get the dogs later that month. And as you can tell she was ok with it, so we picked up the dogs over MEA school break. Since that day we have had nothing but fun. Over the last year we have experienced so much from finding new trails, hitting trees, to hooking the dogs up and taking them right down the city street!
